German F4: Kami Laliberté at the Nürburgring
Nurburg, Germany, August 5, 2017 – Young Montréal born driver Kami Laliberté and his rivals participating in the 2017 German Formula 4 championship are gathering in western Germany this weekend, scheduled to race on the famed Nurburgring. However, for the young Canadian, his weekend program had to start only on the second day due to a minor health problem. The Van Amersfoort Racing team driver woke up sick yesterday morning and that situation kept him away from his car and the track. He had to skip the two important free practice sessions scheduled for Friday. Feeling better this morning, Laliberté has been able to enter the qualifying session and therefore register a time that would authorized him to be present on the grids of the three weekend races. Contrary to what he normally shows, the Canadian was not able to display his customary speed and had to settle for the 15th fastest time of the session.
‘’Being sick yesterday, I had to miss the free practice sessions and this morning in the qualifying, I could not do better than 15th place; even though I was only four tenths from pole’’, explained the young driver who, starting from the 8th row, was hit from the rear on the second lap of today’s race. He was then forced to retire. “Following the accident, I realized that I had a punctured tire. It has not been my best day, but I still have two races tomorrow and I will do whatever it takes to get as many points as possible," concluded the Van Amersfoort Racing driver.
Tomorrow, the drivers will complete their weekend of activities in the Eifel mountains with a race before lunch time and a final one late afternoon. With unfavorable positions on the grids due to today's results, the Montréal born driver will try to collect as many points as possible in order to maintain or improve his current 7th place in the series standings before the penultimate program of the season, in a month at the Sachsenring.
